A charity which supports disabled people find work has announced two new board members.

Into Work has been operating since 1993, providing personalised employment advice and practical support for disabled people and those with long-term health conditions across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian.

In the last year alone, the charity has helped 195 people achieve positive outcomes in their employment journey.

It has now added two new faces to its board of directors, bringing new perspectives and experience to the charity’s leadership group.

Jamie Szymkowiak brings 15 years of experience in the employment sector, with a proven track record of establishing foundations for start-up operations.

“As a disabled person myself, I am all too aware of the challenges disabled people face securing well-paid jobs,” he said.

“I hope my experience as a business owner, recruitment expert and disability rights activist will support the vital work already being done by the fantastic team at Into Work.”

He is joined by Scott Mackintosh, who has more than 25 years’ experience in the private sector. He said: “During my career in business I have been passionate about working with and developing people of all ages and abilities, to support them in reaching their goals. With an extensive network and strong experience in strategic and business development, I look forward to supporting the ongoing objectives and success of the Into Work proposition.”

Valerie Bell, Into Work chair, welcomed both new members to the board.

She added: “We are delighted to have Scott and Jamie join the Into Work board in what we believe to be an important time for our organisation. Their combined experience in strategic development, governance and human resources will be invaluable as we continue to support disabled people and people with long-term health conditions across Edinburgh and the Lothians, while we emerge from lockdown.”
