The Law Society of Scotland’s Council is looking for a solicitor to represent the third sector

Nominations are being invited to four of the Law Society of Scotland’s governing Council seats, including a new seat for a solicitor to represent the third sector.

The other three seats that are up for re-election are the solicitor advocate seat, the international seat which represents lawyers outside of Scotland, England and Wales, and the new lawyers’ seat, representing those less than five years’ qualified.

Amanda Millar, president of the Law Society said, “I became a council member in 2010, representing the Perth constituency, and have found it both challenging and rewarding. As a former SCVO Policy Committee member, board member then chair of Mindspace Ltd, as well as the first non-executive chair of Changing the Chemistry, a role I held until late last year, I am delighted to have championed the establishment of the third sector seat on our council. It is really important that we have the views of this sector on our Council to ensure all walks of life are represented.

“Being a council member is a unique opportunity to expand your network, broaden your understanding and represent the views of your constituents, whether they relate to region, sector or stage of career. I would strongly encourage my fellow Scottish solicitors to stand for election.”

Nominations for the four available seats in these elections are being invited and should be submitted by noon Thursday 10 September.

The nominations for the new solicitor council member for the third sector will be reviewed and interviews undertaken by the Nominations Committee.
