Thinking of You aims to make it easier for people to use mobile technology to donate to charity

A new app which allows users to donate money and thoughts has launched.

Released to mark Giving Tuesday, Thinking of You is a quick and simple way to give to charity via mobile technology.

The technology has been backed by a range of the UK’s leading charities including Shelter, Stroke Association, Rethink Mental Illness, Children with Cancer and Make-A-Wish, and is supported by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).

The app allows people to share a thought and make a donation on behalf of someone to mark a birthday or other special occasion. It also allows for the creation of fundraising events, legacy campaigns and can be used for direct donations to charities.

Founder and charity comms entrepreneur, Johnny Pitt said: “I’ve always been struck by the strength of the words Thinking of You, but also the lack of a quick and simple way to give on your mobile. Thinking of You combines both and fills a big fundraising, emotional and societal need.”

Jo Loughran, director of the mental health charity campaign Time to Change, said: “We all want to be there for our friends and family, especially if we suspect they’re struggling with their mental health. Yet our research shows that people are still wary about reaching out. We worry about saying the wrong thing or somehow making the situation worse.

“But showing support doesn’t have to be difficult or awkward. A message via text or an app can be enough to show you’re there and it can mean the world to the person on the receiving end. Thinking of You is an exciting breakthrough, a simple way for people to reach out while supporting some fantastic charities.”

The app is available free from the iOS and Google Play app stores and the operators receive 2.5% from any donation made.
