The Refillery allowers environmentally conscious shoppers to cut their waste by storing goods in reusable packaging

One of Scotland’s first dedicated plastic-free stores has opened its doors.

The Refillery in Newington, Edinburgh, aims to help shoppers reduce plastic consumption by allowing them to use their own containers instead of disposable packaging.

Selling everyday staples such as pasta, rice as well as carefully sourced seasonal organic fresh produce (farm-fresh eggs, fruits, vegetables and fresh bread), The Refillery works with suppliers who share its eco-friendly ethos.

Stocking ethical detergents, beeswax wraps, cruelty-free shampoos and even toothpaste in a jar, the store thinks beyond food packaging and is passionate about reducing plastic across the board.

Founder Kelly Wright said: “UK retailers generate around 800,000 tonnes of packaging waste per year and it’s believed that only a third actually gets recycled – that’s enormous!

“Our relationship with single-use plastic simply must change. I’m excited to be joining the ranks of revolutionary businesses who are offering something radically different to combat our global waste issue.
