Running costs become too much for small social enterprise
Granton-based Move On Wood recycling is to close, bosses have announced.
The Edinburgh recycling charity said it will shut in June after seven years trading as a social enterprise.
From 7 April the group stopped local collections and bespoke furniture orders, including online bespoke and timber orders.
It will continue to accept national collections from its existing customer base and operate our usual business hours for its timber shop.
All current bespoke orders will be fulfilled, the charity said.
The furniture manufacturer said it was closing with “great sadness.”
“Like many other charities and businesses, we have found the current economic and funding climate to be extremely challenging,” it said in a statement.
“Despite the hard work and dedication of the team in the last two years to increase all income streams, we have had to make this very tough decision to close.”
Potentially five staff members could be affected.
The statement added: “We would like to thank our amazing team who have worked tirelessly over the years to provide high quality circular services to the community from bespoke furniture, collections, reclaimed timber sales, employability training, volunteering and community workshops.
“Whilst we are saddened by this loss, we are proud of the work that has been done and are working hard, together with our partners at Community Wood Recycling (the national network of wood recycling projects) to look at viable options for another charity or social enterprise interested in continuing all or parts of the business.”
