Regulator investigates bullying and financial issues at women's support charity

Trustees allege answers have not been forthcoming

OSCR is probing a charity which supports minority ethnic women after complaints of bullying and governance issues.

It is thought that some trustees were not given satisfactory answers when enquiring about expenditure costs, which they claim were not approved by the board.

Other allegations in the complaint include a “toxic” workplace culture.

Amina CEO, Mariam Ahmed, said: “We’re aware of unfounded allegations against Amina MWRC and we are complying with OSCR with full transparency. We have robust governance and financial processes in place.

“We comply with all our legal and funded responsibilities. As a women’s rights charity we continue to support Muslim and BME women ethically and with dignity.”

Amina, which had an income of £650,000, is based in Glasgow and is run by a team of staff, volunteers and a board of 10 trustees.

An OSCR spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we have received concerns about Amina.

“Following our assessment of these, we have opened an inquiry into the charity. As this process is ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.”
