Crimestoppers are expecting an increase in those getting behind the wheel after drinking

A charity is urging members of the public to shop regular drink drivers.

Crimestoppers Scotland is calling for Scots to report those who pay no attention to the laws of the road, as the charity launches its annual drink drive campaign in the run up to Christmas.

Recent figures reveal drink driving is the second most reported crime to the charity in Scotland. Last year, nearly 700 pieces of information relating to drink driving were passed on to police by Crimestoppers, which allows people to anonymously report crimes.

Angela Parker, national manager for Crimestoppers in Scotland, said: “Despite devastating stories each year about people losing their lives due to drink driving, the problem persists. Road safety is all of our concern and whilst some people may have conflicting loyalties, we urge them to think again and remember they can speak to us anonymously to help make our roads safer.

“We won’t ask for your name or personal details. We just listen to what you know. When you hang up the phone or click send you’re done. Together we can help protect the people you care about from crime.”

Calls to the 0800 555 111 phone line and information passed online through the anonymous online form are completely non-traceable.
