Chief executive rewarded for "commitment to employee engagement"
Enable’s Theresa Shearer has won the Institute of Director’s director of the year award.
The chief executive was one of 15 top bosses who collected awards after a record number of nominations were received.
Held in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, the prestigious awards celebrated their achievements in 2016.
The judges said: “We were impressed by Theresa’s commitment to employee engagement.
“She has been outstanding in her focus on quality and finances and has improved Enable’s services substantially.
“Theresa’s astute decision-making and willingness to tackle serious issues head-on are evident and her organisational changes have had a significant impact, not just among the organisation’s 1,800 strong staff, but the many people and families the charity supports throughout Scotland.”
Shearer was also the winner in the Glasgow & West of Scotland Regional Director of the Year award, where she was shortlisted alongside non-third sector leaders.
Shearer said: "I was honoured just to have been shortlisted for two awards, but to win them both is amazing, and I am delighted, not just for me, but for Enable Scotland.
"This is not just a reflection on me, but on the hard work of my colleagues throughout the organisation.
"It is everyone’s continued commitment to deliver the best personalised services to the people we support, and helping to create an equal society for every person who has a learning disability, that has led to our efforts being recognised.
"I am so proud to be part of the Enable family."
Other third sector winners were Gregory Chauvet, who calls himself the cycling enthusiast officer (CEO) of Glasgow Bike Station, who won Workplace Innovation Director of the Year while Tom Campbell, chief executive, North Highland Initiative was awarded Director of the Year for the Small Businesses category.
David Watt, executive director of IoD Scotland, commented: “This year we have once again been shown exceptional business success across the board – whether this has been achieved by leading success in turnover growth, taking an organisation from local to global, innovating and creating world class products, excelling in customer service or creating opportunities and having a positive impact on communities – this year’s crop of directors is living proof that Scotland is in an excellent position to compete on the global stage.”
