The shortlist for the 2015 Scottish Fundraising Awards has been announced

A world record long charity football match which raised around £1000,000 for Edinburgh’s Sick Kids Friends Foundation is one of the nominees at this year’s Institute of Fundraising 2015 Scottish Fundraising Awards.

Organised by the Craig Gowans Memorial Fund, the match took place in July and initially set out to raise just £37,000.

The team behind the game, which lasted an incredible 105 hours, has been shortlisted in the voluntary fundraising group of the year category at the awards, which take place on 6 October.

Held in the Glasgow City Centre Hotel the awards are the showpiece event of the Institute of Fundraising Scotland’s Scottish Fundraising Conference, taking place on 6 and 7 October.

Free to enter, the awards present the opportunity to recognise Scotland’s best fundraisers and honour their success.

This year awards will be given out across six categories (details below).

In the volunteer fundraiser of the year category Motor Neurone Disease campaigner and MND Scotland fundraiser Gordon Aikman has been selected as a finalist. He is shortlisted alongside young artist and Scottish Huntington's Association fundraiser Aidan McCallum, and Breast Cancer Now fundraiser Val McGavin.

Speaking at the announcement of the finalists, Gary Kernahan, chair of the Scottish Conference Committee, said: “All across Scotland we have charities providing vital services that so many people are dependent on.

“This important work undertaken by charities is only possible thanks to the people who work so hard to raise funds.

“We have some of the very best fundraisers here in Scotland and these awards will recognise and celebrate success in fundraising.”
