A piper and a pug donned tartan to launch the event for Macmillan Cancer Support

A piper and a pug have donned tartan to raise awareness of a fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Bagpiper Neil Clark wore a bespoke kilt and pug Fred was outfitted with a red neckerchief as the pair launched the charity’s Turn up in Tartan campaign.

Mr Clark lost his best friend to cancer earlier this year, while Fred helped his owner Joan Rose recover from her treatment for breast cancer.

Macmillan is now urging people to wear tartan on St Andrew’s day, 30 November, to raise funds for the charity so it can help more people with the disease.

With the number of people needing our help growing daily, we constantly need to raise funds

Supporters are also being encouraged to organise bake sales with Scottish treats, ceilidhs or other Scottish themed fundraisers.

Macmillan fundraising manager Michelle Campbell wore a mini kilt as she helped launch the event at Torwood Castle near Falkirk.

She said: “There are currently 220,000 people in Scotland living with cancer. We’re helping people in local communities across Scotland but with the number of people needing our help growing daily, we constantly need to raise funds.

“What better way than by having a bit of fun at work, school or with friends while helping to ensure no-one faces cancer alone?”

The money raised from the partnership will be used to fund Macmillan’s cancer services including specialist nurses working throughout the NHS, a telephone support line and grants for cancer patients with financial problems.
