Disabled Access Day highlights public buildings and areas disabled people can visit

A campaign to improve disability access in public spaces across the UK has won this year’s Cracking Campaign at the Scottish Charity Awards.

The campaign, which is run by Scottish-based Euan’s Guide, the TripAdviser of the disability world, saw public buildings and spaces across the UK improve their facilities for disabled people.

Paul Ralph, who created the campaign, said he was delighted to accept the gong on behalf of the many disabled people who took part in the day.

"I thank them, their friends and families, who shouted about the day and took part in the many events across Scotland," he said.

Euan’s Guide has become an increasingly important resource for disabled people wanting to review and learn more about accessing public buildings as well as bars and restaurants.

Shulah Allan, Convener of Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), which organises the awards, said: “I’m in awe of all the finalists and winners.

"Thanks to their efforts, more people in Scotland are receiving the support they need when they need it and we’re all more aware of important issues, and causes, which affect vulnerable people, and us all.”
