Blackburn, Seafield and District Credit Union relaunched with a community event.
Blackburn, Seafield and District Credit Union (BSDCU) is this week celebrating its 30th anniversary, which included a community event in Blackburn that marked their achievements, while looking to the future.
The community institution, which has helped thousands of people during its existence, is using its 30th anniversary to re-launch the credit union with a new trading name and website and so that they can now help people right across West Lothian.
Its trading name will now become West Lothian Savings and Loans and their new website will make it far easier for members to save and apply for loans.
The BSDCU relaunch on its anniversary is being done with one goal: to ensure that they are here for the next 30 years and beyond so that they can continue to serve people in Blackburn and Seafield but also right across West Lothian.
Liam Murphy, treasurer of West Lothian Savings and Loans, said: “Our Credit Union has played a pivotal role in our local communities these past 30 years. We have helped people borrow affordably because we have always had the interests of our members at heart.
“We recognise the importance of having a credit union in our community. We want to continue to help people and ensure that they have access to affordable loans in a way that banks and other financial organisations just don't.
“It's great we have reached this milestone of 30 years. Our aim now is to continue serving our local communities, whilst extending our membership and services across the rest of West Lothian.
“That's why we are changing to our new trading name to West Lothian Savings and Loans which describes the services we offer and the area we cover but we are still BSD Credit Union. The new website will make it easier for people to become a member and to save and borrow from us and that's why we can now offer our services further afield across West Lothian.”
The organisation’s fun day on Sunday, September 29, brought together those who work with them, with dozens of organisations showing their support.
Manager, Lisa Hosie, added: “Our Credit Union is an inclusive organisation that serves the entire community. People from all walks of life, regardless of their circumstances and income, can and do use the credit union and receive help from it. It brings together all parts of our local communities.
“We provide members with a safety net for difficult times and the opportunity to improve their lives. Life is full of ups and downs, and we help smooth this path.
“Our social value is demonstrated by the regular emergency loans we provide. Whether someone needs to replace a washing machine, fix a car, or requires a loan to attend family events, we are there to help provide the means for what they need.
“I am proud to be a part of our Credit Union. I understand its importance to our members, and I look forward to seeing us thrive in the years to come and continue to help many more people in the future.”
