Moray MSYP voted in as chair of the parliament

Louise Cameron member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP) for Moray has been elected as the parliament’s new chair.

Cameron was voted in by MSYPs at the Youth Parliament’s 54th national sitting and AGM alongside new vice-chair Terri Smith MSYP for Edinburgh and Northern Leith.

The membership also elected four new trustees: Sian Hughes MSYP, David McLaughlin MSYP, Rachael McCully MSYP, and David Stewart MSYP.

It is such an honour to have been elected as the new chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament, especially in this exciting year in Scottish history

Speaking after the sitting, hosted by Shetlands Islands Council, Cameron said: “It is such an honour to have been elected as the new chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament, especially in this exciting year in Scottish history.

“Whatever the outcome of the referendum, there will continue to be tremendous opportunities available for young people to influence politics and shape the future of our country.”

“I am excited and optimistic that with my leadership, and the support of our strong membership, we can grasp the attention of politicians and truly have a say over the politics affecting us as young people.”

The Scottish Youth Parliament is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people.

Nearly 160 members are elected every two years and meet three times a year to debate policy, select campaign priorities and host events with stakeholders and other guests.

The latest board of board of trustees and committee conveners will lead the SYP over the next year.
