The Outward Bound Trust was considering severing ties with the beleaguered duke - but instead he resigned as its patron.
He made the move as part of his withdrawal from public duties amidst the growing scandal about his links to close friend and billionaire paedophile Jeffery Epstein.
The prince has been castigated for failing to show empathy with the victims of Epstein – who killed himself earlier this year in a US prison while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges - during a disastrous interview with BBC Newsnight.
There are also allegations – which have been denied – that the royal had sex with a 17 year old who had been trafficked for sex.
The trust, which is registered as a charity in Scotland and which takes young people on wilderness adventure and learning trips, held a board meeting where it was announced that Prince Andrew was stepping down.
His daughter, Princess Beatrice, remains a trustee.
The charity issued a statement saying: "The board has accepted the resignation as patron of HRH the Duke of York following his announcement that he will be withdrawing from public duties for the foreseeable future.
"The board thanks HRH the Duke of York for his support over many years."
