The Clan Donald Lands Trust (CDLT) is set to make nearly £7million.
A charity trust based on the Isle of Skye is facing a regulator probe as it sells ancient Highland lands for millions.
The Clan Donald Lands Trust (CDLT) has been the caretaker of the ancient lands of Clan Donald since the 1970s, but is now selling up for £6.8million.
The assets, including Armadale Castle, will bring to an end an 800-year-long association between the Clan and the lands.
Clan Donald, also known as Clan MacDonald, has said that once the sales go through, “the charity will become a grant-giving body”, supporting “clan and indigenous Highland heritage projects including art, music, literature, history and education”.
The charity’s board said they had been facing financial difficulties due to the “high cost, low-income” nature of their assets.
The Sunday Mail is now reporting Scotland’s charity regulator (OSCR) is now investigating CDLT’s governance and finances following complaints.
OCSR told the newspaper: “OSCR has received a number of concerns from the public about the CDLT.
“We are now engaging with the charity trustees to establish the facts of this case, and we have sought extensive information and explanation from them.
“We are specifically looking to understand the current financial position of the charity and the circumstances that led to the decision to put significant charitable assets up for sale.”
