A host of top social enterprises were recognised at the annual awards gala

The top social enterprises in Scotland have been revealed.

The winners of the Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2019 were announced at a ceremony in the Scottish Parliament last night (Tuesday 12 November).

The Social Enterprise of the Year award went to Community Food Initiatives North East, which tackles poverty and builds resilience through a range of support and services for and with the disadvantaged, vulnerable, low income individuals, families and communities in north east Scotland.

Paul McColgan, chief executive and founder of Community Renewal Trust, was named Social Enterprise Champion, whilst Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company was picked as the One to Watch.

Professional services firm PwC won the Market Builder Award, The Spark (which provides counselling for families) gained the Social Impact Award and off-grid learning centre The Shieling Project won Environmental Social Enterprise.

Chris Martin, chief executive of awards organisers Social Enterprise Scotland, said: "A huge congratulations to the winners of Social Enterprise Awards Scotland 2019 - and thanks to everyone who applied for the awards this year.

“The high standard of applications reflects the great mix of social enterprises across Scotland who are building an inclusive society and economy."
