Staff member sacked for posting anti-Zionist TikTok video

The video did not reflect the views of the charity

A Save the Children staff member has been sacked after posting a TikTok video seeking “anti-Zionist bagel shops” in New York.

Speaking to Third Sector, chief executive Moazzam Malik said the employee no longer had any relationship with the charity.

Yasmin Ghaffar, a campaigns manager, was suspended in January for the video where she stated: “I’m going to New York next week, and I really want to go to the bagel shops.

“But I don’t want to be giving my money to any genocidal maniacs.

“So does anybody have any recommendations on bagel shops that are either actively pro-Palestinian or are just known to not be in support of that hellhole place and Zionism?

“So anti-Zionist bagel shops in New York, please.”

Malik said: “As soon as we saw the comments that she had made in a private capacity, obviously we were upset and rather shocked and asked her to take them down. She did so immediately.

“We then had an internal process that led to a decision several weeks ago and an appeals process. Following that internal process, this individual no longer works for Save the Children.”

The comments in no way reflected the views of Save the Children as an organisation, said Malik.

Save the Children is also due to release findings of an external review into antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate within the charity.
