The charity has lined up a host of special guests for the fundraising event.

Street Soccer Scotland is holding an online gala dinner this Saturday to raise vital funds.

The charity, which uses football to support people facing disadvantage and social isolation, has seen traditional fundraising streams dry up in recent weeks due to the coronavirus lockdown.

It has now moved its annual gala dinner online, allowing supporters to donate to the charity while enjoying top-class entertainment from the comfort of their own homes.

Speakers will include Scotland captain Andy Robertson, Harry and Sandra Redknapp, Emma Dodds, Sir Tom Hunter and comedian Des Clarke. Sir Alex Ferguson has recorded a special message for the event, and comedian Greg McHugh will be putting in an appearance in his Gary: Tank Commander guise. Music for the event will be provided by Tom Grennan.

Celebrity chef Nick Nairn has created a special menu for the dinner, and anyone who signs up will be offered a masterclass showing them how to prepare and cook the meal ahead of the big night. Guests are also encouraged to dress up if possible, although the charity has stressed that black tie is optional.

A Street Soccer Scotland spokesperson said: “Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, Street Soccer, like many charities and organisations have had to postpone a series of vital fundraising events such as charity lunches and gala dinners.

“In order to maintain and develop our support services and programmes during Covid-19 and beyond, we have launched an innovative new Street Soccer Gala Dinner (at home). This unique fundraising event will provide us with the support and resources to deliver our services and support systems for those who need us most.”

The dinner is being held over Zoom on Saturday 30 May at 7pm and costs £50 per household. Tickets can be purchased here.
