Supporters help cancer charity build new website

Edinburgh-based group wanted to create a sustainable site with a strong user experience

Worldwide Cancer Research has launched its new sector-leading website, which was created in collaboration with supporters.

The Edinburgh-based charity wanted to create a sustainable site with a strong user experience, while creating an eye-catching and secure trusted source of knowledge for anyone impacted by cancer.

Worldwide Cancer Research currently funds more than 100 research projects, worth a collective £20 million, with the potential to change the course of cancer research.

The charity focuses on the most innovative research ideas to start new cancer cures, explore ways to prevent cancer and discover more effective and kinder treatments for patients.

It organisation worked with brand and digital agency Yoyo to bring the same innovative approach to the new site, with Curestarters, the name given to the charity’s supporters, playing an instrumental role in the overall design and user experience changes.

Amy Gunn, Worldwide Cancer Research’s head of marketing and supporter experience, said: “We’re thrilled that our supporters have played such a key role in bringing this to life.

“Without our amazing Curestarters the vital research that Worldwide Cancer Research funds across the world would not be possible.

“We wanted to ensure that their voices were heard to create an engaging platform that meets their needs and improves their experience. This is such an exciting time for Worldwide Cancer Research. Our website marks a step change in our ability reach more people, inspire them to act, and start new cures for cancer”.

As well as a new overall look to the website, improving the supporter journey and donation capabilities, there is a new section dedicated to explaining cancer and research with every article assessed by cancer experts before publication, users can also now see the direct impact their donations are making.

Gunn added: “Our Curestarters told us they wanted to see the impact donations are having on cancer research. They’ll now find searchable articles on the direct impact they are having on our work, as well as an in-depth report showcasing the biggest discoveries”.

“By giving people the answers they’re searching for, we’re hopeful we can build on the trust and loyalty we have with our supporters, as we continue to explore new cancer cures together.

“I would like to thank each of our supporters and researchers who make everything we do possible and for Yoyo for their exceptional expertise and strong partnership approach. We hope our Curestarters will be as pleased with the new website as we are”.
