Sir Andy Murray is encouraging people to sign up for the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk
Sir Andy Murray has urged Scots to get their kilts on and set the Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalk as a goal for 2018.
The tennis superstar has recorded a video message in support of the event, which kicks off in Glasgow this spring.
The Kiltwalk attracted 14,000 walkers in 2017 and raised £2.5 million to help 780 charities all over Scotland. The fundraising model makes the event an efficient way to raise money for charity – for every £100 raised by a walker, The Hunter Foundation tops it up by 40%, meaning charities receive £140.
The charity's chief executive Paul Cooney said: “Huge thanks to the inspirational Andy Murray for his ringing endorsement of the Kiltwalk and we hope it encourages you to get your kilt on and sign up for one of the four walks this year.
“We want the 2018 Kiltwalk to be even bigger this year with more walkers than ever before. We want to surpass the phenomenal £2.5m raised for Scottish charities by walkers last year and with your help we can do that.”
The four Royal Bank of Scotland Kiltwalks kick off with Glasgow on 29 April, Aberdeen on 3 June, St Andrews to Dundee on 19 August and Edinburgh on 16 September. Each walk has three distances to choose from to suit people of all ages and abilities. In Glasgow there is the 23-mile Mighty Stride, the 14-mile Big Stroll and the six-mile Wee Wander.
