Race For Life's Pretty Muddy event takes place in Glasgow on Saturday

TV presenter Cat Cubie is preparing to get dirty – in the battle to beat cancer.

She will take part in this weekend’s Pretty Muddy event at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow on Saturday (20 June) to raise vital funds for charity partner Cancer Research UK.

Broadcaster and columnist Cat offered her support to highlight the important role that fundraising plays in helping to beat cancer sooner.

She knows first-hand the importance of research, having lost her grandmother to breast cancer.

Also getting muddy is cancer survivor and former Motherwell FC cheerleader Kate Bowman, who discovered she had a rare form of cancer when she was just 23.

Kate, now 24, was initially given the shocking news that her chances of surviving were not good, but she’s now cancer-free and also taking part in Saturday’s event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

She said: “I am supporting Pretty Muddy as I want to raise as much money as I can for a great charity which makes such a difference to people’s lives.”

Susan Johnstone, Race for Life national event manager for Scotland, said: “Last year, more than five thousand ladies took part in Pretty Muddy in Glasgow, raising an incredible two hundred and thirty thousand. This year, we hope that even more women will turn out to join in the muddy fun. The money raised allows the charity’s doctors, nurses and scientists to carry out vital research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Glasgow.”

Pretty Muddy is a 5k muddy obstacle course where women of all ages, shapes and sizes can climb, jog and walk. It is sponsored by ScottishPower, a number of whose staff are taking part.
