Campaigners will formally declare their revolt against the financial structures which are driving us towards oblivion
Environment activists will issue a declaration of rebellion against the political and corporate interests that threaten life on our planet.
Extinction Rebellion campaigners will formally declare their revolt against the financial structures which they say are driving us towards oblivion.
They will meet outside the Scottish Parliament at 1pm on Saturday (24 November) to read their Declaration of Rebellion.
The group, a loose coalition of activists, has staged a series of non-violent direct action events elsewhere in the UK, including in London where they blocked bridges.
Saturday’s event in Edinburgh will not feature direct action – but Scottish activists have promised this is on the cards as the campaign grows.
Extinction Rebellion was formed to take a militant approach to combating “ecocide” – after scientists warned humanity has just 12 years to get climate change under control and avoid mass extinction.
A spokesperson said: “We are facing an unprecedented global emergency. The government has failed to protect us. To survive, it’s going to take everything we’ve got.
“The Extinction Rebellion in Scotland begins on Saturday!
“Join us outside the Scottish Parliament as we declare rebellion against the political, financial and corporate structures which are driving us towards extinction.”
Activists will be joined at the Scottish Parliament by Scottish Green MSP Patrick Harvie and Caroline Rance –from Friends of The Earth Scotland.
They will then go to St Andrew’s House where the declaration will be made again.
