Worked tirelessly in the local community

A well-loved champion for young carers has died after a short illness.

Kirstie Howells was the CEO of Young Carers Fife and was dedicated to helping the community that she served.

She joined Fife Young Carers in 2018 having managed other young people’s services for several years and was passionate about ensuring young carers in the region could access the support which best suited their needs.

Her role meant she worked closely with the local Young Carer's Strategy Group and at a national level with the Young Carers' Services Alliance.

Kirstie was based at the organisation’s offices in Lochgelly.

People took to social media to pay tribute following news of her passing.

Judith Alison from Youth 1st wrote: “All at Youth 1st are devastated to hear about Kirstie. She will be a huge loss to FYC and to the wider Voluntary sector in Fife. Thinking of you all so much.”

Sonia Beattie said: “She was simply brilliant.”

And Lynn from the Nourish Support Centre said: “I am so sorry to read such sad news, our thoughts at Nourish Support Centre are with Kirstie's family and friends, and the Fife Young Carers Team.”
