Cancer Research UK and Channel 4 have joined forces once again for tele fundraiser

Scots are being asked to back a joint fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.

Stand Up To Cancer aims to raise money to fund research into treatments for the disease and culminates in a night of special programming on Channel 4 on 9 October.

Celebrities including Kirstie Allsopp (pictured), Davina McCall, Alan Carr and Embarrassing Bodies' Dr Christian Jessen are urging everyone in Scotland to stand up and do something to help raise money at work, school or at home.

Allsopp, best known as one half of the presenting team of Location, Location, Location, has already taken part by clearing out her clutter and hosting a Stand Up To Cancer yard sale.

“Having lost my mum and other family members to this dreadful disease, I wanted to do something special to support Stand Up To Cancer,” she said.

The more cash we raise, the faster we can get cancer treatments to the people who really need them

“Over the years I have accumulated a lot of things that I love but really don’t need, so it was great to find new homes for it all while raising money for a cause that’s very dear to me.

“There are so many ways you can get involved, with friends, family and workmates.

“The more cash we raise, the faster we can get cancer treatments to the people who really need them.

“I hope this inspires people to find their own exciting way to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.”

Launched in the UK in 2012, Stand Up To Cancer has already raised more than £23.8million.

Stand Up To Cancer funds clinical trials and research that aims to have a real impact on patients’ lives.

Lisa Adams, Cancer Research UK’s spokeswoman in Scotland, said: “We’ve made amazing progress against cancer in the past few decades.

“Thanks to new treatments, screening and earlier diagnosis, more people are surviving the disease than ever before.

“Advances in technology have revolutionised cancer research, and we know more about the disease than ever.”

A range of clothing and accessories is also being sold to raise money.
