More charities using Apple Pay to make donating easier

Donors pledging cash to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) can now donate through Apple Pay, it has been announced.

The payments system enables easy donations via new encrypted technology which does not store card numbers on the device or on servers.

Instead, a unique account number is assigned, encrypted and stored on a device, making it fully secure.

BHF joins leading charities including Barnardo’s, British Red Cross, Cancer Research UK, Comic Relief and Unicef UK using Apple Pay to help raise money for their causes.

Amanda Bringans, director of fundraising at the BHF, said: “Heart disease is heartless. It devastates the lives of millions of people throughout the UK. Research is the best weapon we have to fight it, and the lifesaving breakthroughs we make are only made possible by the enormous generosity of our supporters.

"We’re delighted to be supporting Apple Pay to help make it even easier for people to support our lifesaving work, as every pound raised could help bring us a step closer to beating heart disease.”

Online shopping in apps and on websites accepting Apple Pay means there is no need to manually fill out account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information.

Apple has said that it is adding one million new users each week to the payments service, boasting that the transaction volume via Apple Pay is five times the amount from a year ago.
