Venture Scotland has appointed a new chief executive officer.

The charity, which offers outdoors-based personal development courses for vulnerable young people, announced that David Brackenridge will assume the role on a full-time basis following an interim arrangement since November 2018.

A spokesperson said Brackenridge had stepped into the role during a time of “significant challenges” and has steered the charity into a sustainable position from which it can continue its mission.

Brackenridge has previously been a volunteer, a board member and charity’s Edinburgh team manager.

As the new CEO his role will be to drive Venture Scotland’s strategy and give more people the chance to experience working with, volunteering for and benefitting from its programmes.

In a statement, the charity said: “David’s achievements this year would not have been possible without the support and hard work of staff and volunteers and the understanding of the young people we work with.

“The trustee board are grateful to everyone for their commitment over the past year. We are confident that under David’s leadership the organisation will continue to develop from the strong foundation he and the team have created.

“The trustee board look forward to working with David, the management team and our wider stakeholder community to continue Venture Scotland’s unique and valuable role in supporting young people.”
