Scottish Veterans Residences has secured £47,000 from Comic Relief

A charity which provides housing support for veterans has secured a funding boost.

Scottish Veterans Residences (SVR) has received a grant from Comic Relief's Homeless Response Fund to help it absorb some of the financial impact of Covid-19.

Administered by Comic Relief’s partner Homeless Link, the grant more than £47,000 will support the SVR’s ongoing operations which have incurred significant additional costs since the outbreak of the global pandemic. The funds will be used to cover extra cleaning measures, disposable catering supplies, further lockdown activities for residents and additional staffing costs.

SVR has been operating for more than 100 years providing accommodation and services for UK military veterans who are experiencing homelessness. The charity’s housing support services in Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow provide accommodation for up to 160 veterans at one time.

Martin Nadin OBE, chief executive of SVR, said: "We are grateful to Comic Relief and Homeless Link for this generous donation to help cover our operating costs which have increased significantly due to Covid-19. This financial support will all be focused on the health and wellbeing of our veteran residents as we progress through this public health crisis.”
