VIDEO: the truth about life on the Isle Bute for Syrian refugees

This short and moving film examines the reality of life for 15 families that fled Syrian as refugees and are now living on the Isle of Bute

This moving short film provides a fascinating insight into life on Bute for 15 Syrian refugee families, the locals who have welcomed them and those who are more sceptical.

These families were some of the first UK Government approved resettlement families to arrive in December of 2015.

Placing the families on the remote Isle of Bute has been controversial with media stories questioning what opportunities there are for them on the island.

The film was made by Dr Shameela Islam-Zulfiqar and aims to capture the human cost of families ripped apart by war and conflict.

Shameela said: "This film has been a labour of love for me as a producer. Created as part of a university masters module, on a zero budget, it is a small part of a much bigger project and I have made many friends along this journey.

"The film is dedicated to all refugees who are often stripped of their voices when they become displaced. Much more effort must be made to facilitate refugees to speak for themselves."
