Vodafone makes donation to charity appeal following billing error

Telecomms giant Vodafone doubled charged customers who donated to charity, it has been revealed.

People giving money to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s East Africa Appeal had money taken from their accounts twice thanks to a computer cock-up.

Vodafone admitted that a "small number of customers were affected by a temporary computer glitch between 17 and 18 March".

It has apologised to customers, credited cash taken to accounts and has made a donation to the DEC appeal.

The DEC has been asked for comment.
