The pandemic has changed how people live, work, and want to be communicated with, so how can we ensure we’re using the correct methods to reach our key audiences?

This year’s SFHA Communications Conference, which is taking place virtually, will include interactive event features such as session polls, live chat, delegate networking and on-camera group discussions.

The conference has sessions for staff from the housing, third and public sectors, working in communications roles of all levels, and plenary session are as follows:

Changing behaviours through communication

Speakers: Michael Higgins, Senior Strategy and Insight Manager, Scottish Government, and Shane Donnellan, Senior Consultant in Behaviour Change and Engagement, Changeworks.

How can we use communications to positively influence people’s behaviour, including around issues such as energy efficiency and fuel poverty? Learn about successful campaign methods and how we can support tenants in the current climate of energy price rises with best practice in communication and behaviour change. 

Engaging people in everyday subjects – commitment, challenges and opportunities

Speaker: Tracey Wilson, Tenant Participation Manager, North Ayrshire Council.

This session will look at the various methods of communication which enable successful engagement with communities in North Ayrshire. The session will also discuss the tenant communication and involvement which the council carried out during the pandemic, highlighting the challenges and opportunities that emerged during this period.  

Internal communication – engaging with colleagues to get measurable outcomes

Speakers: Josephine Graham, Internal Communications Lead, Bradford Council and Stuart Darroch, Group Communications Manager, Wheatley Group.

Tackling stigma through communications

How can communications professionals tackle the stigma that still surrounds social housing? This session will allow delegates to learn from an organisation that exists to tackle stigma. See Me is Scotland’s national programme to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination, and we’ll hear about the methods it uses.
