Poll: should Airbnb landlords face stricter rules?

This poll is about 5 years old

The Airbnb boom has led to travellers having even more options in terms of places to stay at destinations around the world.

However the rise in properties being used as short term holiday lets has led to calls for greater restrictions.

Research commissioned by the government found a three-fold increase in Scottish properties let for short-term use since 2016, with 32,000 recorded in May of this year. Critics have said Airbnb-style properties are driving residents out of certain areas, and increasing rents and house prices. As TFN reported earlier this week, a new ethical travel accommodation website has been set up in a bid to ensure communities benefit more from short term lets.

So we are asking: should Airbnb landlords face stricter rules?

Yes, I think in general they decrease affordable places for rent - while also falling in some grey zone between rental property and hotel (for instance, I have never heard of properties being checked for HMO or fire regulations if they apply). As bad as Uber
