Poll: should families do more for those who need care?

This poll is over 6 years old

Edinburgh Integration Joint Board (EIJB) is planning to make changes which place an onus on people receiving care to look after themselves, or to be greater supported by family members.

The board is planning conversations with the public about what might be deemed a reasonable contribution from individuals, their relatives, neighbours and local communities to provide elements of social care as it looks to meet shortfalls in its budget.

Is it right to expect people to play a bigger role in caring for loved ones when they need care? Or should the state provide the support that elderly people need?
