A tax on meat could prevent 220,000 deaths and save the NHS £307 billion per year, researchers have said.
Experts from the Nuffield Department of Population Health at Oxford University have proposed a levy which would raise the cost of red meat by 14 % and 79% for processed meat.
As well as the health implications, it would also be good for the environment.
But as a society, are we ready – or willing - to give up on our hotdogs and rolls on square?
And wouldn’t taxing meat simply be another burden on those who can least afford it?
This is why we’re asking: should people be forced to pay more to eat meat?
