Theresa Shearer
Enable Scotland has appointed Theresa Shearer as its new permanent chief executive. Theresa has been at Enable since April 2015 in an interim position and was previously chief operating officer for the charity. She has a background in developing people and strategy, with over 10 years experience across the private and third sector, operating at both executive and director level. Mark Bishop
The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) has appointed Mark Bishop as its new head of development. Mark, who has spent the last six and half years as Director of Fundraising for Prostate Cancer UK, will take charge of the NTS fundraising team from 5 October. While at Prostate Cancer UK he oversaw initiatives that helped to grow the charity’s income by 600%, including the high-profile Men United campaign. Mark was also previously head of corporate fundraising at Leonard Cheshire Disability for five years following earlier career spells with Harper Collins publishers and Sky Television. He is a graduate of the University of Stirling, with an M.Phil in Publishing Studies.
Mark Smith
The Stroke Association has appointed Mark Smith as a trustee as well as chair of its Scotland Committee. He takes over from Dr Mike Cornbleet who has held these roles for five years. Mark qualified as a physiotherapist in 1985. He became Scotland’s first consultant physiotherapist in 2006, specialising in stroke rehabilitation, and works within NHS Lothian. He completed an MPhil in physiotherapy in 2009 and is also a member of the National Advisory Committee for Stroke, playing a key role in the design and delivery of life after stroke services in Scotland.
Dr Cameron McPhail
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland has appointed Dr Cameron McPhail as a cartoonist in residence. Dr McPhail is a former banker turned writer and cartoonist. After stints in academia and Scottish Enterprise, he joined the Royal Bank of Scotland and rose to be chief executive of wealth management, before leaving to pursue a career in writing and cartooning. He and his talented team at the Kartoon Faktory (based in Jersey) create unique cartoons and memorabilia based on political and social satire. He is tasked with promoting the society through humour and illustration.
