Grants of up to £5,000 are available to local charities and organisations helping local communities affected by the weather
A quarter of a million pounds has been raised by a charity appeal for the victims of the recent floods in Scotland.
Foundation Scotland launched the National Flood Appeal earlier this month hoping to raise £1 million to provide local charities and organisations with emergency cash to help individuals and families in their communities affected by the unprecedented weather.
It has seen a steady flow of donations from the general public and it is hoped that funders and businesses across Scotland will continue to donate to the appeal.

One of the most recent donations was a cheque for £75,000 from the People’s Postcode Lottery.
The emergency award will be used by organisations doing critical work on the ground in areas such as Aberdeenshire and the Borders.
Grants of up to £5,000 are available and priority is being given to the most vulnerable including the elderly, people on low incomes, families with young children and those with additional support needs.
The foundation’s chief executive Giles Ruck said it has already had a number of requests from community led groups for funds to support local relief efforts.
“We are delighted to receive this substantial boost to our appeal taking us a quarter of a way to our £1 million target,” he said.
“Whilst many charities and organisations are coping amazingly well with the immediate crisis, community groups such as local flood prevention groups need support now and also to build resilience for the future.
“This significant sum will be invaluable in achieving that. We would encourage organisations to apply for funding through our website foundationscotland.org.uk.”
Clara Govier, head of charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, added: “Disasters don’t just happen abroad but can happen in Great Britain as well.
“Hopefully, the organisations receiving grants will be able to help victims of this disaster begin to rebuild their communities.
“Players of People’s Postcode Lottery will be happy to see the money they have raised is being used to help flood-affected people right here in Scotland."
