Charity hopes one-of-a-kind items signed by celebrities will raise thousands

Alzheimer Scotland is looking for special homes for six unique, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind items, including quilts signed by Andy Murray and Jack Charlton, in its first online silent auction.

Running from 18 February to 11 March, the money raised from the event will help to safeguard the future of vital Scotland-wide services such as the Dementia Helpline, Dementia Advisors, Dementia Nurses and dementia research.

In silent auctions bids are written on a sheet of paper. At the end of the process, the highest listed bidder wins the item.

The Andy Murray quilt was created by renowned quilter Ann Hill for Alzheimer Scotland's 'Stitching the Pitch' project last year.

The chance to own something so beautiful and unique only comes once in a blue moon

The auction also includes two quilts decorated with images of legendary football player and manager Jack Charlton, which is personally signed, and two quilts featuring images of former Scotland manager Craig Brown CBE, who attended the Stitching the Pitch event in June 2013.

There will also be a handcrafted doll's house of collector standard, furnished with detailed miniatures in Georgian style.

Standing six feet high, the house was created over many years.

Catherine Thomas, Alzheimer Scotland’s head of fundraising, said: “These items are very special and the chance to own something so beautiful and unique only comes once in a blue moon, so we urge our supporters to get involved and to spread the word to family and friends.

“We are extremely grateful to the kind supporters who have donated these one-of-a-kind pieces.”
