Katharine Sacks-Jones is leaving The Multibank.

The CEO of former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s anti-poverty charity has announced she is to step down just four months after taking on the role.

Katharine Sacks-Jones will be replaced on an interim basis by Bob Garmory, a founding trustee.

Ms Sacks-Jones told the Charity Times her departure “has not been an easy decision and I appreciate the opportunity and the experience I’ve gained here”.

She also told the website: “It's been a privilege to meet so many amazing people who share a commitment to supporting people in poverty.

“Not least to have the opportunity to work alongside the Rt Hon Gordon Brown, a true visionary who founded the charity.

“Initiatives like the Multibank shouldn't be needed in the UK in 2025 but sadly rising poverty means more families unable to afford even the basics. I wish the organisation every success for the future and I’m looking forward to exploring what comes next.”

Mr Garmory, a Fife-based charity leader, will take on the role from December 1, and will serve for one year.

In a statement, the charity said: “The Multibank charity is pleased to announce the appointment of Bob Garmory as interim chief Executive effective December 1, following Katharine Sacks-Jones’ decision to step down.

Katharine is working closely with Bob to ensure a smooth transition. Bob will serve for a minimum 12-month period.

“We extend our sincere thanks to Katharine for her service to The Multibank and for the capable leadership and rigour she has brought to our infrastructure and business frameworks. Her contribution has strengthened the charity’s foundation for growth and collaboration. We are sorry to see her go and wish her every success in the future.

“We are delighted to welcome Bob as he transitions from trustee to interim chief executive. A founding figure in the establishment of The Multibank in 2022, Bob has played a pivotal role in defining the charity’s mission and operational approach.

“He brings extensive leadership experience to the role, having previously chaired Fife’s Chamber of Commerce and Dunfermline Athletic Football Club.

“Together with Bob, The Multibank Board will build upon the strong foundations set by Katharine, continuing to foster collaboration and expand our impact across the United Kingdom.

“To date, The Multibank has supported 800,000 individuals through the redistribution of 12 million products. With your support, we can continue working towards a future where everyone can access what they need with dignity, providing practical support to people experiencing poverty.”
