Brave star Kelly Macdonald is taking up the role of ambassador to Yorkhill Children's Charity

Hollywood actress Kelly Macdonald is one of the new ambassadors of Yorkhill Children’s Charity.

The charity, which provides support for children and families from across Scotland at Yorkhill Hospital, has announced a series of new ambassadors, including Kelly who starred in Trainspotting before moving to Hollywood and appearing in No Country for Old Men and Brave.

Scotland football manager Gordon Strachan has also signed up as an ambassador for the charity, as has X Factor finalist Nicholas McDonald.

Macdonald said: “Yorkhill Children’s Charity provides amazing support to children and families and this ambassador programme is the perfect opportunity to go a step further in endorsing the great work they do.

“It is fantastic that so many people are willing to utilise their skills or networks in whatever way they can to make a difference to the children and their families helped by Yorkhill Children’s Charity.”

Shona Cardle, chief executive of Yorkhill Children’s Charity, said: “We are extremely pleased to welcome as ambassadors such a diverse group of committed and respected individuals and families to represent the charity and its vision. Each ambassador brings their own strengths to the group and wants to contribute the knowledge and expertise where it is needed most and that is a tremendous asset to the charity going forward.

“Our ambassadors believe in our expanded vision to help even more children locally, nationally and internationally, and we look forward to working with them as the charity continues to grow.”

Other ambassadors include Campbell Ogilvie, president of the Scottish Football Association; Scott Taylor, chief executive of Glasgow City Marketing Bureau; Kenny Baillie, chief executive of London Scottish Rugby Club; and Ian McLauchlan, non-executive director of Scottish Rugby Union.
