Ayrshire Cancer Support has saw its supplies dwindle and is unable to replace them due to panic buying

A cancer charity has issued an appeal for donations of hand sanitiser.

Ayrshire Cancer Support has said shortages created by panic buying have left the charity without vital supplies of the anti-bacterial solution.

The charity operates counselling services, transport and other complimentary therapies for those in the region battling cancer.

A Facebook post from the charity said: “Ayrshire Cancer Support takes the well-being of our patients, clients, volunteers and staff very seriously. The current Coronavirus outbreak has meant that hand sanitiser gel is out of stock or being sold for vast sums of money by profiteers.

“This has meant that we are unable to replenish our supplies. As we work with patients with a compromised immune system, we are very carefully hand-washing on a regular basis as well as implementing a variety of infection control methods.”

Britons have been urged not to panic buy items such as anti-bacterial lotion and soap as it is important that the population as a whole has access to it. However many supermarkets have reported that shelves have been emptied and prices of hand sanitiser online have rocketed.

The charity has asked for anyone who has excess hand sanitiser to make donations to it.
