Scottish Love in Action (SLA) is inviting supporters to host fundraising Diwali Dinners to help support vulnerable children in India

A Scottish charity is hosting a special fundraising event to help support vulnerable children in India.

This November, Scottish Love in Action is inviting supporters to enjoy a meal within their own households to help ‘shine a light’ of hope for vulnerable children in India during the season of Diwali.

Like all charities this year, Scottish Love in Action (SLA) is finding the pandemic has meant they’ve had to cancel many of their fundraising events (like the much-loved SLA Fireworks Extravaganzas, held every November).

So the charity has created an alternative seasonal event, the Diwali Dinner. The Indian ‘Festival of Lights’, Diwali, is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. People come together to share a meal and celebrate this festival of new beginnings and the triumph of light over darkness.

Scottish Love in Action is asking people to enjoy a Diwali Dinner with their household (and to invite friends and family online/over Zoom to join them) any night in November.

Each dinner guest is asked to donate an amount to SLA for the meal; the great news is any money raised will be matched pound for pound by SLA’s sponsor Truscott Property. Participants can choose to cook, have a pot-luck dinner, get a takeaway, or buy in a ready-meal, whatever they fancy.

To take part, participants register online for just £10 and receive a pack with a great-value Spice Pots Curry Night Kit (containing four natural curry powder pots and eight delicious recipes), indoor sparklers and tea lights so they can create their own special Diwali Dinner evening. When people send in their donations, they’ll be given the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win four VIP tickets to the SLA Fireworks Extravaganza 2021.

Scottish Love in Action chief executive Michelle Davitt said: “A Diwali Dinner is the perfect opportunity to brighten up the long dark nights and have something to look forward to during these difficult times. The support of our sponsors Spice Pots and Truscott Property is hugely appreciated. We’d love it if people across Scotland could take part in a Diwali Dinner from the comfort of their own homes, whilst knowing they’re shining a beacon of hope to some of the most deprived children in our global family.”

Register online to brighten up this November for children in India.
