Forces charity needs new supporters to hit £10 million target #NeverMoreNeeded
A forces charity has re-started door-to-door fundraising as it attempts to weather the Covid storm.
Erskine says its resilience has been severely tested during the past few months.
As a result of the pandemic, no area of its work has remained untouched as it has attempted to keep up its commitment to former forces personnel and keep its four care homes and Veteran Village going.
It says it needs £10 million to keep its work going – and it is looking for new donors, as well as thanking the commitment of its legion of existing supporters.
The charity – which was founded in 1916 - has therefore decided to re-start door-to-door fundraising.
It says it is doing this after taking extra Covid precautions as its representatives visit homes in the Glasgow area over the next four weeks.
To cut down on contact, fundraisers will not ask for cash, cheque or debit card at the door.
Instead it will encourage people to sign up to a direct debit, using contactless methods such as a QR code or SMS.
A spokesperson said: “We have been overwhelmed by your loyalty and grateful for the unwavering financial and emotional support we have received from the wider community.
“However with no end in sight to the difficulties we are living with Erskine is asking its supporters for their help once more. Regular donations to the charity ensure the high standard of care we have offered since 1916 to over 96,000 ex-service personnel, can continue uninterrupted, and we are seeking new supporters to help fund the vital sum of around £10m required to support this work.
“The most effective way we can secure the funding we need is by visiting the public, door to door. As the health and safety of our supporters and fundraisers is of course our top priority we have brought in extra measures to protect everyone. Our door to door fundraisers are highly trained in Covid-19 health and safety measures and social distancing. They are easily recognisable by their Erskine ID badges, purple branded clothing and face masks.”
