​Veterans and their families are being asked to fill out a quick survey to highlight some of the major issues

Advice charity Housing Options Scotland has announced it is investigating how difficult it is for former members of the armed forces community to get help with housing.

The study was set up after the Scottish Veterans Commissioner recently identified a number of key areas for improvement in the provision of housing advice and information.

Funding for the survey was provided by the Scottish Governmen'ts Veterans Fund, with the aim of conducting research in order to better recognise the needs and challenges faced by those who have served in the armed forces.

Veterans and their families are asked to fill out a survey which asks what, if any, help they were given while in the forces and when they left.

The ‘Finding your home on civvy street – A survey of the housing pathway experienced by the armed forces community’ is thought to be the first of its kind undertaken in Scotland.

Moira Bayne, chief executive of Housing Options Scotland, urged all veterans and their family to take part in the survey, which should not take more than five minutes to complete.

“It is really important they tell us how easy or difficult it was for them to find a house when they left the armed forces,” she said.

“The more respondents we have the more chance we have to understand what is working and equally what needs to be addressed.

“Veterans have served our nation with all their hearts; it is only fair to make sure they are welcome back with the right support.”

Those who complete the survey will be entered in to a free draw to win £50 of retail vouchers for them and £50 to be donated to their chosen charity.
