Glasgow City Mission is looking for people it has helped to support it to take part in Doors Open Day

One of the world's oldest homeless charities is looking for those who it has worked with in Glasgow to tell their stories.

As part of the Doors Open Days Festival, Glasgow City Mission is opening up its five-storey city centre building to the public on Saturday 16 September from 11am to 5pm.

The charity, which has been serving those in need in the city since 1826 and is the world’s oldest city mission, is calling for people who have links with the charity to come forward to get involved.

There will be building tours on offer along with activities for children. As well as hearing stories from the men and women the charity has worked with, there will be an opportunity for people to share their own stories about Glasgow City Mission across the years.

The theme of this year’s Doors Open Day is history, heritage and archaeology. Events will be celebrating Glasgow’s tangible and intangible heritage, including the area’s diverse stories, traditions and culture.

Graham Steven, partnerships and communications manager at Glasgow City Mission, said: “We’ve been trawling through our archives and have unearthed some incredible stories and historical moments of where people struggling in the city have been helped by Glasgow City Mission. We can’t wait to share some of these historical gems of lives transformed with visitors to our Doors Open Day.

“We’re also acutely aware of just how many people have had connections with the charity over the years including many who used to work or volunteer, or have used our services. We’d love to hear more of their stories too.”
