Charity’s lifeline minibus torched by vandals

Auchmuty and Dovecot Tenants & Residents Association are now fundraising.

A Fife charity supporting those in poverty has said its lifeline work is under threat after their minibus was set on fire.

Vandals attacked the Auchmuty and Dovecot Tenants & Residents Association (ADTRA) vehicle in Glenrothes on the morning of Wednesday, December 4.

The minibus was torched, and police are currently treating the incident as deliberate.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: "Around 2.40am on Wednesday, 4 December, 2024, we were made aware of a mini bus on fire on Woodside Way, Glenrothes. The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing."

The group helps over 450 vulnerable people each week, between providing hot meals, bedding and new home starter kits for families.

However, their plans in the lead up to Christmas are now in doubt, meaning the delivery of toys and Christmas dinners may not go ahead.

The group posted on Facebook: “Well as most of you will be made aware our mini bus was set on fire last night.

“We are absolutely devastated that some low life has done this to a charity so close to Christmas. We feed and help out over 450 families during the festive period and went into panic mode this morning.

“That's when our knight in shining armour came along and Willie Kerr from Fife Auto Centre graciously offered his minibus to help us continue our commitments.

“Thank you all for the kind messages and words, it's an ongoing police investigation and the individuals have been identified.”

The charity has now launched a crowdfunder to support their work following the incident.

They said that while insurance would cover the cost of the van, upgrades were required that the charity would need to meet the costs of.
