The 64-year-old has worked in the sector since 1982, and has led the drive to increase volunteering in Scotland for the past two decades.

Alan Stevenson, communications and IT manager at Volunteer Scotland, will take over as interim chief executive when Thomson departs at the end of the month. Thomson will be continuing in his role as chair of the bid team to bring the IAVE World Volunteer Conference to Glasgow in 2023.

To mark his retirement, Thomson has penned a letter to the sector where he pays tribute to those he's worked with. You can read the letter here.
