The card is based on popular kids’ tune When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney

A Christmas card inspired by a popular song has beaten off the competition to win an art competition for looked-after children.

The card, designed by Shannen from Glasgow, is based on When Santa got Stuck up the Chimney and depicts Father Christmas on a roof of a house with Rudolph.

Shannen’s design was first place in the Centre for Excellence for Looked After Children in Scotland (CELCIS) Christmas card competition.

Her artwork has now been used in all CELCIS Christmas cards, sent out to thousands of recipients throughout the UK and abroad. She also received a £50 gift voucher.

In total there were nearly eighty entries, all from children who are looked after in Scotland.

Jennifer Davidson, CELCIS executive director, said: “We had a tremendous response to this year’s announcement, which goes to show the appetite that these young people have in doing something creative.

“The quality of this year’s work was extremely high and we had a real dilemma on our hands when judging the winner.

“At CELCIS, we believe in ensuring that children and young people are provided with the much needed support that they need, in the hope of making long-lasting improvements to their lives. Our competition has opened up a small but fun opportunity for looked after children, at this time of year. I would like to thank all of who committed time to producing such colourful and creative designs.”

The designs were judged by CELCIS staff members. The winner and runners up from the competition have been posted online on the CELCIS website.
