Three charities working in Scotland and three operating in the rest of the world have been selected as charity partners by the Church of Scotland Guild
Six charities can expect £100,000 windfalls thanks to the Church of Scotland’s voluntary organisation.
The Church of Scotland Guild has selected projects working in Scotland and from around the world as its partners for its 2015-18 fundraising cycle.
In Scotland the partners are Care for the Family Scotland – a charity which helps new parents through struggling after having a baby, Ascension Trust – which runs the Street Pastors project where volunteers help those on the streets from 10pm to 3am at the weekend and Prospects in Scotland – which runs the All Friends Together project aiming to help churches welcome people with learning disabilities and include them in all aspects of church life.
Kay Keith, the Guild's national convener, said: "This is an opportunity, not to just give funding, but also to be part of it.
"We will raise funds for all the projects, but we are a service organisation so our members will get very involved as volunteers with the three Scottish projects."
The Guild has more than 22,600 members in 890 groups across Scotland, and enjoys a track record of success, raising more than £670,000 for the projects it adopted during 2012-2015.
The other three charities to benefit run projects in Africa and South America.
They are: Christian Aid – which runs the Caring for Mother Earth in Bolivia project helping to protect the rainforest by building solar powered ovens, Mission International – a Dundee based charity which is helping to building a church in the Haitian town of Ouanaminthe, and Feed the Minds – which operates the Breaking the Cycle of FGM project in Kenya.
