Defibrillator donated by charity stolen from North East town

Police in Moray are investigating the incident.

Police have condemned the theft from a town in Moray of a defibrillator donated by a charity set up in memory of a teenager.

Officers are investigating the theft of a defibrillator donated to the community by Kieran’s Legacy from outside Anderson Butchers, West Church Street, Buckie sometime overnight between Wednesday, 11 and Thursday, 12 December 2024.

The charity was set up in memory of Keiran McKandie who died when his mountain bike was hit by a car in Moray in 2016.

The 16-year-old’s parents donated the machine following a campaign to ensure more of the life-saving devices are close at hand when someone suffers a cardiac arrest.

As of 2022, every police fast response vehicle in Scotland carries a defibrillator thanks to a donation from the charity.

Sergeant Graeme Allan said: "This is an abhorrent crime of an item that could possibly be used to save a person’s life."
