Eric Liddell's day care service supports up to 70 people living with a diagnosis of dementia every week

A charity has launched a festive appeal to support people in Edinburgh who are living with dementia.

The Eric Liddell Centre has launched a fundraising appeal for its Dementia Day Care Service. The care charity and community hub based in South Edinburgh supports up to 70 people living with a diagnosis of dementia every week, with 3,500 places available every year.

It is hoped that a successful campaign will raise much needed funding to provide essential support for those living with dementia. The service provides person-centred support while also enabling vital respite for loved ones.

John MacMillan, chief executive of the Eric Liddell Centre, said: “Presently in the UK, dementia is the only condition in the top ten causes of death without a treatment to prevent, cure or slow its progression; although there have been some encouraging developments in recent research.

“We’re hoping that the community will support this appeal and help us to ease the challenge of dementia.”

A donation of £20 can help pay for specialist dementia activities, whilst £100 can pay for training for staff and volunteers.
