​Foodbank has experienced its busiest ever year

People have rushed to the aid of a Glasgow foodbank after it began to run out of stock.

Glasgow North-East Foodbank launched an appeal on social media, saying it did not have enough food left.

People rushed in to help out, staving off the immediate crisis, but the foodbank is still in dire need of stock and is accepting donations.

The Trussell Trust-run foodbank, based in the Parkhead area, is experiencing its busiest ever year, with a spike in the number of people seeking aid.

This is in line with foodbanks across the country which have had to feed record numbers of people as the effects of Tory austerity show no signs of abating.

A foodbank spokesman said: “Following a social media request for donations, the foodbank has been heartened to see the public donate food and money. The foodbank is keen that donations continue in order to help them meet the current demand for emergency food.”
